Today I took my car to the car wash and was struck by how much I enjoyed it's looks again. It's not perfect by any means at all. I have a lot of work to do, which of course knowing me will be documented on here. All winter I was sort of feeling sick of my car but the advent of our very first summers day really made me feel a lot better.

To whit, the first thing is to pick up our two new tires tomorrow and get them mounted this week, then put them on the car. (currently I have two summers wheels and two winters wheels on). Then we have to replace the passenger side headlight, so it can sit properly. Then after that, we will begin slowly fixing up the many many paint chips I seemed to have acquired.

I'm rolling 200K kilometers this week or next week. And I am proud of what I drive and how I take care of it again. I am happy Oppo. Be happy with me.

Grats on 200k km, I'm sure you're getting tired of people telling you the Cavalier/Sunfire are durable, esp. the engine and transmission, cheap to buy, cheap to insure, cheap on gas. Many buyers automatically goes running to the Japanese for budget cars, but you're losing out if you don't consider these models.

A friend was buying his first car, after years of borrowing familys or renting. He was persuaded to go for something just above beater territory. Ended up with an 02 Sunfire GT 5MT which was totalled 2 weeks after he got it: some woman had driven, at lowish speed, right into his driver's side door as he was turning left down a side-street. Door was a write off, and...so was the car.

A guy at work was in a major 7-car accident at an intersection driving a 4dr. Sunfire. He broke his leg, his car was a wreck, but the tough old bugger is back again on his feet. And what did he get to replace his Sunfire? Another Sunfire.

Meh . I enjoy hearing about it. My poor little guy got backed into at low speed, but I was able to fix it up, it was about $2K in repairs and the other guys insurance paid for it. It was a border line write off, but I fixed it anyways, because I couldn't in good conscience get rid of it.

Your sunfire story reminds me of my lady friend's mom. She bought a sunfire then totalled it hitting a deer, then bought another sunfire. My L61 (engine) is in great shape it seems. Planning a big 4000+ km road trip this summer so we will see how it does.
